IMPROVING STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY MASTERY AT THE EIGHTH GRADE OF MTs BINA POTENSI SIS-ALJUFRI TATURA PALU BY USING MIND MAPPING STRATEGY


Abstrak

Rusnaeni: 13.1.06.3.1.007. This skripsi is entitled “Improving Students’ Vocabulary mastery at the Eighth Grade of MTs Bina Potensi Sis-Aljufri Tatura Palu by Using Mind Mapping Strategy”. English Education Study Program, Language and Art Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Muhammadiyah University of Palu, It was under the supervisions of H.Muh Asri Hente, and Abd. Waris.
The objective of this research is to find out whether the vocabulary mastery of the eighth grade students of MTs Bina Potensi Sis-Aljufri Tatura Palu can be improved by using mind mapping strategy or not. This research applied quasi experimental research design that the two groups were experimental and control group the research population was the eight grade students of MTs bina potensi sis-aljufri tatura palu. The sample of this research was selected purposive sampling technique. The samples of this research were class VIIIA as experimental class that consists of 18 students and class VIIIB as control class that consists of 18 students. In collecting the data, the researcher used test. The test was used twice as pre-test and post-test, the result of pre-test in the experimental group is 54.22 and post-test is 90.33, while the result of pre-test in the control group is 52.33 and post-test is 62.94. Having analyzed the data, it was revealed that there were different scores obtained from experimental group and control group. In other words, the t-counted value was (9.856). By applying 0.05 level of significance and the 18+18=34 degree of freedom, it was found that t-table value was (0.0126). It shows that t-counted value was higher than the t-table. In the other words, mind mapping is effective to develop the vocabulary mastery of MTs Bina Potensi Sis-Aljufri Tatura Palu.
